What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling — also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) — uses a medical-grade device to create thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. Those micro-injuries trigger your body's natural wound-healing response, flooding the area with new collagen and elastin.

The result: smoother texture, reduced acne scars and fine lines, minimized pores, and a healthier, more radiant complexion — all powered by your own biology, not heat or laser energy.

At MerLeaux, we offer traditional microneedling as well as PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) upgrades that amplify your results by infusing your own growth factors directly into the micro-channels at the time of treatment.

How Does It Work?

A precision microneedling device creates controlled micro-injuries at a depth customized for your skin concern and treatment area. Your skin responds by producing fresh collagen and elastin — the building blocks of firm, smooth, youthful skin.

Micro-Channel Creation

Thousands of tiny channels are created in the skin at a precise, customized depth — triggering the wound-healing cascade without damaging surrounding tissue.

Collagen & Elastin Surge

The healing response floods the treated area with new collagen and elastin, gradually improving texture, firmness, and tone over the weeks following treatment.

PRP / PRF Infusion (Optional)

Your own platelet-rich plasma or fibrin is applied at the time of needling, driving concentrated growth factors deep into the skin for amplified, faster results.

What to Expect — Pre & Post Treatment

Before Your Treatment

  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs), and active acne treatments for 5–7 days before your appointment.
  • Stay out of direct sun and avoid tanning for at least one week prior to treatment.
  • Arrive with clean skin — no makeup, sunscreen, or topical products on the day of treatment.
  • Inform your provider of any active breakouts, cold sores, or skin infections — treatment may need to be rescheduled.
  • If adding PRP or PRF, a small blood draw will be performed at the start of your appointment.

After Your Treatment

  • Expect mild redness and a sunburn-like sensation for 24–48 hours — this is normal and a sign your skin is healing.
  • Keep skin clean and moisturized; avoid active skincare ingredients (retinoids, acids, vitamin C) for 5–7 days post-treatment.
  • Apply SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week after treatment.
  • Avoid heavy exercise, saunas, and steam rooms for 24–48 hours to minimize inflammation.
  • Results build gradually over 4–6 weeks as new collagen matures — full results from a series are visible at 3–6 months.

Treatment Protocol

Sessions

3–6 sessions recommended

Spacing

Spaced 4–6 weeks apart

The ideal number of sessions depends on your skin concern — acne scars and stretch marks typically benefit from more sessions than general texture improvement. Your provider will build a personalized plan during your consultation.

Results Timeline

Immediately After

Skin appears pink to red, similar to a mild sunburn. Some patients notice a subtle glow once redness subsides within 24–48 hours.

1–2 Weeks

Skin begins to feel smoother as surface healing completes and early collagen production begins.

4–6 Weeks

Visible improvement in texture, tone, and pore size as new collagen matures. Results from each session build on the last.

Full Series

Cumulative collagen remodeling delivers the most significant improvements in scars, fine lines, and overall skin quality at the completion of your series.

Long-Term Maintenance

After completing your initial series, most patients maintain results with one to two treatments per year. Your provider will recommend a maintenance schedule based on your skin goals and how your skin responds.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Patients with acne scars, surgical scars, or stretch marks
Those seeking improvement in skin texture, tone, or pore size
Anyone wanting to stimulate collagen without laser energy or extended downtime
Patients looking to enhance results with PRP or PRF growth factors
Most skin types and tones — microneedling is safe for a wide range of complexions

This treatment may not be right if you:

  • History of keloid scarring or poor wound healing
  • Currently using isotretinoin (Accutane) — a waiting period is required
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Certain autoimmune conditions — your provider will screen during consultation
